Gallop Logistics receives Canada's highest business award

Gallop Logistics has been named one of Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies, a prestigious national award that recognizes companies operating at the highest levels of business performance. Conferred annually since 1993, the Best Managed designation symbolizes the success attained by companies that consistently excel in the global economy and deliver stakeholder value while staying true to their core vision.

"Out of thousands of applications and a grueling vetting process, Gallop Logistics emerged as one of Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies in 2005," says James McSherry, executive vice president and managing director of CIBC Commercial Banking, one of the sponsors of the Best Managed program. "This company has achieved the highest level of Canadian business excellence."

Canada's 50 Best Managed winners are determined by an independent panel of judges. The program sponsors include Deloitte, CIBC Commercial Banking, Queen's School of Business, and National Post.

As Canada's largest provider of mission-critical, over-the-road freight forwarding services, Gallop Logistics operates in a demanding and highly competitive market. Lorne Swartz, Gallop's president, says the Best Managed award is a well-deserved acknowledgement of all the hard work and team effort that goes into every shipment.

"What the award is telling us - and our customers - is that we're doing something right, and we're doing it better than our competitors," he says. "There are more than 2.2 million businesses in Canada - to be selected as one of the Best Managed speaks volumes about our commitment to being the best not only in our industry but across all industries nationwide."

Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies is the country's leading business awards program, recognizing passion and innovation in Canadian-owned and managed companies with revenues over $10 million. This year's Best Managed winners generated combined revenues of $7 billion, with sales growth of more than 25% over the last 2 years and employ more than 20,000 people.

Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies award, however, looks beyond a company's financials. It appraises an organization's ability to overcome significant market challenges. Given the turmoil over the last few years within the freight industry, Gallop's continued growth and success represent significant achievements in a market where many have tried and failed.

The Best Managed award also measures the efforts of the entire organization and examines the effectiveness of its team structure. Swartz says Gallop's headquarters, located downtown in the country's largest city, is definitely pulsing with positive energy.

"People who visit our offices often say that it's like stepping onto the trading floor of a busy stock exchange," says Swartz. "And it's true - when we all come together as team, we generate this buzz, this dynamic, highly-charged atmosphere."

Founded in 1993, Gallop Logistics has built a reputation for best-in-class customer responsiveness, on-time pick up and delivery and guaranteed competitive rates. Gallop moves more than $550-million worth of goods each year and, in less than 10 years, has moved over 300,000 FTL loads.
